Using a quality pet flea control product on your dog or cat can save a lot of frustration for both you and your beloved animal.

After all, fleas may be small in stature but they can create havoc for your pet and those living inside your home.

These parasitic insects feed on the blood of mammals and birds leaving behind small red, itchy bumps that can lead to hives, infections and even disease.

Since they're so small, chances are you'll notice your dog excessively scratching or biting their coat long before you notice the fleas themselves.

This constant scratching or even licking is often a telltale sign of biting fleas.

So, in order to control the problem and prevent any more unwanted bites, you'll need to use a couple of quality flea control products to kill the fleas and prevent them from coming back.

Pet Flea Control Products

To remove fleas from both your pet and your home, choose one or more of the following pet flea control products:

Topical Flea Control

Often found in liquid form and applied directly to your dogs skin between the shoulder blades, topical products are easy to use and are effective at treating an existing flea problem and can help prevent future infestations.

Frontline Plus Flea and Tick Control for Dogs

Frontline Plus is a popular brand highly recommended by veterinarians.

A single dose applied between the shoulder blades will kill up to 100% of existing fleas and prevent them from coming back for up to a month.

A special ingredient also kills flea eggs and larva preventing future infestations on your pet.

Frontline Plus works on fleas, chewing lice and ticks and can be applied to dogs and puppies 8 weeks and older.

The dosage required is listed by your pets weight on the front of the box.

Chewables And Oral Tablets

Oral products in the form of tablets and chewables are a quick and effective method for killing fleas

After the medication is consumed it travels through the bloodstream and to the skins surface where it's consumed by the flea when it bites.

Capstar Flea Tablets for Dogs and Cats

Capstar flea pills are inexpensive and after being taken orally by your dog or cat begin working in as little as 30 minutes.

After 4 hours nearly 100% of the fleas on your pet will be dead.

This pill works on living fleas and will not be effective against flea eggs or flea larvae which is why it's commonly used in conjunction with other treatment options

If you want to kill the fleas on your pet quickly.....this stuff works really well.

Just remember you'll have to also treat the fleas living in your carpet or pets bedding or they will just keep coming back.

Flea Collars

Flea collars are easy to use, inexpensive and generally last for several months.

Consisting of a plastic adjustable band that's covered in a chemical designed to repel both fleas and ticks, a flea collar offers a quick and easy solution to flea control.

Bayer Seresto Flea and Tick Collar for Large Dog

Bayer Seresto is veterinarian recommended and is probably one of the most trusted flea collars on the market.

A single flea collar on your dog will repel fleas and ticks for 8 months meaning you won't have to worry about applying a topical liquid every month

The low concentration chemical is released slowly over time meaning your dog will have continuous protection.

Plus, the collar kills fleas and ticks on contact, so no biting is required.

Flea Shampoos

Instead of using a regular pet shampoo when bathing, consider using a flea shampoo that has ingredients to kill and repel fleas and ticks.

They're simple to use and typically require the product to be worked into your pets coat for a couple minutes before washing it out.

Perfect Coat Flea And Tick Shampoo works really well and leaves your pet smelling fresh and free from ticks and fleas.

It's only recommended for dogs over 12 weeks of age.

Pet Flea Control Using Flea Sprays

Flea sprays are very easy to use by simply spraying your dog from the neck to the tail.

Sprays offer a quick and easy way to kill and prevent fleas between baths or other treatments.

FRONTLINE Dog Spray

Frontline Flea and Tick Spray works great on dogs and cats 8 weeks of age an older.

After applying the spray, it can kill 95% of fleas within the first 2 hours

The spray also lasts up to 6 weeks on cats and up to 1 month on dogs.

Pet Flea Control - Overall

No matter which pet flea control method you choose, early intervention will make getting rid of the fleas a lot easier.  If you're unsure which product to use, talk to your veterinarian to see what they recommend.

Remember, if you have an indoor pet you'll also have to kill the fleas living inside your pets bedding or living in the carpet

Use a vacuum to thoroughly clean around your pets bedding area and wash any contaminated bedding in hot water.

Getting rid of fleas on your dog or cat can seem like a daunting task, but as long as you're thorough and use one of the products listed above your flea problem will be a thing of the past.
